Clean and maintain your furniture regularly. Cleaning frequency depends on use. We recommend using a professional furniture cleaning service.

Always test cleaning solutions and methods in an inconspicuous area of the furniture before proceeding. Treat spills and stains promptly. The longer the stain remains, the more difficult it will be to remove. Clean spots or stains from the edge of the stain working toward the center.

For regular cleaning and maintenance, remove excess soil with a damp, non-abrasive cloth. Use a solution of mild pH neutral liquid soap and water. Rinse with clean water and dry.

Stain Treatment / Disinfection

For stubborn stains or heavy soiling, use a straight application of concentrated cleaners such as Formula 409® or Fantastik®. Wipe with a clean, non-abrasive cloth, rinse with water, and dry.

For more difficult stains or to disinfect, use a mixture of no more than 10% bleach and 90% water. Always rinse with clean water and dry. Never use full strength bleach.

For persistent stains use a 1:1 mix of isopropyl alcohol and water. Use a non-abrasive cloth saturated with the solution, rub gently, then pat dry. Rinse thoroughly and pat dry again.

Approved Cleaners / Disinfectants

These cleaners/disinfectants have been tested for use on this material when diluted per manufacturer’s instructions:

If these cleaners / disinfectants are used, the material must be rinsed with clean water and dried
with a clean cloth following application. Failure to rinse thoroughly with clean water and to pat
dry may lead to cleaner build up and cause surface deterioration (cracking, blisters, peeling,
discoloration, etc.).

Do not use cleaners marked “for hard non-porous surfaces only” unless indicated above. Such
use may cause surface deterioration (cracking, blisters, peeling, discoloration, etc.).

Caution

• Indiscriminate use of strong cleaning chemicals can severely damage or discolor this material.
• Never apply full strength bleach to this material.
• Avoid cleaners containing abrasives.
• Do not use heat to clean this material. Hot water, hot water extraction, or steam cleaning is not recommended.
• Do not saturate material or let cleaning agents pool in seams.
• Several light applications of a cleaning agent are less harmful than a single concentrated application.
• Certain apparel dyes, including denim indigo, may migrate onto lighter colors and may be irreversible.
• Certain inks, including ballpoint ink, can create permanent stains.
• If stains persist despite recommended methods, they may be permanent.
• Some solvents are highly flammable. Follow manufacturer directions and warnings.
• Do not use solvents like paint thinner, Varsol, acetone, whiteners, waxes, silicones, or non–pH neutral detergents.
• Do not use plastic or wire sponges or hard-bristle brushes; they may permanently damage the material.

General Recommendations

• Clean with water based foam or cleaner
• Do not saturate with liquids
• Do not get the furniture wet

Regular Maintenance

Clean monthly with a clean, soft, colorfast, damp, soapy cloth or sponge and rinse with clean water

Stain Treatment and Spot Cleaning

A professional cleaning service is recommended

Treat stains quickly

• It will become increasingly difficult to remove the longer a stain is allowed to set
• Pretest any cleaning method or agent in a small hidden inconspicuous area
• Several less concentrated applications are less damaging than one concentrated application

Remove fluids immediately by blotting with a clean, colorfast, absorbent cloth Flush stain with water and dry with clean cloth

Rinse all cleaning agents thoroughly with water and wipe with a soft cloth

• Residue left by cleaning agents will degrade and shorten the life and/or affect the product’s appearance if not removed.

Remove solid or semi-solid substances

• Using a flat object, remove as much of the stain as possible
• After removal, vacuum thoroughly using the proper attachments before cleaning with an agent

Abrasive household cleansers and steel wool should be avoided

Bleach Cleanable

To disinfect spray a 4:1 ratio water/bleach mixture on the fabric and allow to linger for the time specified bythe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Rinse all cleaning agents thoroughly with water and wipe with a soft cloth

• Some solvents are highly flammable. Exercise proper care when cleaning with solvents and solvent cleaners. Read and follow manufacturer’s directions on labels.

Normal Care and Cleaning

Remove ordinary dirt and smudges with a mild soap and water solution and a clean, soft cloth or towel. Dry with a soft, lint-free cloth or towel.

Caution: Abrasive powders, steel wool, industrial strength or solvent cleaners, and vinyl “conditioners” or “protectors” should be avoided. Undiluted bleach or lacquer can dull or damage the product. If in doubt about a detergent or cleaner, test a patch in an inconspicuous place before applying in a larger place.

Disinfection

PreFixx® protected upholstery can be disinfected with a variety of hospital grade disinfectants with little to no discoloring or damage to the finish. Disinfection does not replace the need for regular care and maintenance.

Special Cleaning Problems

Although performance fabrics treated with PreFixx protective finish are resistant to most common stains, the dyes and pigments in some staining agents have the ability to create a permanent stain if not treated properly. To clean difficult stains from upholstery treated with PreFixx protective finish, locate the staining agent in the lists below and follow the corresponding recommended cleaning method. For best results, treat all stains immediately.

Cleaning Tips

To determine the method and type of cleaners, the source of the stain should be identified.

Staining Agents: Baby oil, ketchup, chocolate, motor oil, olive oil, grape juice, urine, blood, hair oil tonic, tea, coffee and betadine. Use method 1.

Staining Agents: Eye shadow, crayon, grease, tobacco tar or nicotine, yellow mustard and lipstick. Use method 1. If stains persist, use method 2.

Staining Agents: Permanent felt tip marker, ballpoint pen and spray paint. Use method 2.

The recommended cleaners used in Cleaning Methods 1 and 2 are progressively more aggressive. Often, it is better to begin with the least aggressive cleaner and move to the next strongest only if the stain remains. NEVER EXCEED a staining agent’s recommended cleaner or cleaning method, however.

Method 1: Use one of the following cleaners with a soft cloth or damp sponge. Rinse area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint free cloth.

Method 2: Use a solvent-type cleaner*, such as rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol). Rinse cleaned area with fresh water then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth. If the stain persists after six rubs, the stain has set and probably cannot be removed. Rinse cleaned area with fresh water, then dry with a clean, lint-free cloth.

*Caution: Follow all product use instructions. Use in well ventilated area; some solvents are highly flammable. Exercise proper care in cleaning and notify personnel in area of danger. Wear protective gloves and eye protection during all cleaning activities. Use caution in cleaning around buttons, stitching and wooden or decorative trim, since these solvents could damage such areas.
